There are a few requirements that must be met in order to obtain a Montana CPA licence. These requirements include academic credentials and experience as well as continuing professional education. Some of these requirements can be found in other states but some are specific to Montana. Montana's requirements include a bachelor of science degree with an accounting concentration. You must also complete two hours of ethics coursework.

Montana's CPA examination is computer-based. This exam tests candidates knowledge and skills in accounting. To pass the exam, a candidate must have completed a college course in accounting and obtained at least 2,000 hours of auditing experience. Additionally, the candidate must pass all four sections in the CPA exam within 18 months.

The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy administers CPA examinations. The exam examines accounting knowledge, professional responsibility, and ethics. Candidates must pass all four sections in 18 months. Each section must be scored at least 75 marks. Failure to pass a section can be retaken for a fee. However, retaking the exam will not guarantee you a Montana CPA license.

A Montana CPA must be registered with the Montana Board of Public Accountants if the CPA is employed in a Montana company. The firm must also disclose the list of license holders to MBPA.
